NEWS FLASH:  Kevin Kopczynski, is a winner in the 2013 National STEM Video Game Challenge.  Kevin was one of fourteen middle school and high school students who were announced as winners from almost 4,000 entries.

This competition aims to motivate interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) among students in grades 5-12 by tapping into their enthusiasm for playing and making video games. The top original video games and game design concepts were selected in 14 categories from nearly 4000 entries.

EdSurge, the top educational technology newsletter reports:

FOR KIDS, BY KIDS: Congratulations to the fourteen young winners of the 2013 National STEM Video Game Challenge! This year saw almost 4,000 entries, and this recap on the Joan Ganz Cooney Center blog offers oodles of insights into the whole process. For instance, "...46% of students designed educational games. When asked why, many competitors said they wished they could use games in the classroom or to teach their peers about their interests." Here's a description of the winning submissions. We confess to liking the Victorian-themed puzzle platformer where players play Jason McQuillan, "a young man determined to improve his social status in Industrial Age England and make it to every party...without getting his one suit dirty." What a task!

The Victorian-themed puzzle the editor mentions is Kevin's game!   Kevin also wrote all the music for this game, as his very first Harmonia project.  Congratulations, Kevin!!  We are so proud of you!
