The Ensemble de la Belle Musique (EBM) is pleased to announce its inaugural "Call For Scores". The theme is "Christmas".
Composers are encouraged to submit works for any combination of the following instrumentation, ranging from solo to a maximum of 15 instruments:
4 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, 2 double basses, 1 flute, 1 oboe, 1 clarinet, 1 bassoon, 1 saxophone, 1 trumpet, 1 horn, 1 trombone, 1 tuba, 1 percussion (marimba OR vibraphone OR glockenspiel), 1 piano

We are in our 3rd awesome year of the Violettes Youth Songwriter Contest and Composition Competition for ages 10 thru 18(still in high school).
Submit on-line with score and recording MP-3 or You Tube.

The Huit Préludes are among Messiaen’s early works. He was only twenty years old at the time the Preludes were written. He had not yet undertaken to experiment with rhythm nor was he completely involved with bird singing yet.

Violettes by Becky holds an Annual Youth Songwriter and Composition Competition (ages 10 thru 18 if still in high school). Students submit score and recording or You tube on-line for professional judges to reply with encouraging constructive comments.

One of the most important thing a composer can do is listen, listen, listen. Listen with score, listen without score, listen with eyes shut, listen with score again, listen as you conduct, listen as you hum the main themes - you'll learn so much by informed listening!

Piano Adventures Level 1 – Nancy and Randall Faber
This series of books works very well for the young beginner. The Lesson and Performance books are particularly helpful.
